We also need to look at our own language when we're describing our industry. I've read and heard the comments that oil and gas will continue to grow production and keep commodity prices low the same way renewables advocates do - via "technological advances" and "policy changes". Except our resource isn't readily renewable, and now that a new team is in town we're seeing industry leaders admit that $50 oil isn't likely to produce additional low cost supply in the US. Navigating the reality that energy prices are going up, and will be a key issue in politics this year and beyond, will require very skillful communications.
